From a series called "Immersions" about the life of the beach, and the healing power of light and color. My work is new media print making, created from a blend of photography and other original media through a process of digital alchemy, and produced as a limited edition print. *These prints are not reproductions of paintings.
This piece combines various photographs into a landscape of industrial surface, contemporary color and a figure in a space that is both real and dreamed. The visual approach is inspired by a recent exhibit of Monet's work at Étretat. The selection of paintings in this exhibit included early photographs and essays about the interplay between painters and photographers in the Impressionist movement. It is a dialog that continues here, with modern photography and a painter's mind. Where the French Impressionists smeared a figure with paint thinned with turpentine, the modern photographer might look through a lens darkly, or with so much depth of field the world becomes entirely emotion. When I first studied Impressionism as a painter my favorite artist in this group was Bonnard, with his wild vibrating color and uncertain clarity of figure and field. This image continues the long arc of translation, from painting to photography and back through history.
The finished piece is meticulously proofed and printed on German Etching, using archival pigment inks rated to last for 100 years or more. The prints come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the edition number and the edition size.
These prints are traditionally numbered and signed in light pencil with the number on the left and the signature on the right, just below the image. They are intended to be matted with an approximately 1/2 inch space all around to reveal the signature, but can be cropped to the edge of the image if desired. Prints are sold unframed. Due to the difference in monitor settings on various devices I cannot guarantee that the color match of what you receive will be exact compared to what the listing shows.
